Laura + Gabe [Engagement Portraits]

Posted on March 17, 2010

I have loved getting to know Laura and Gabe over the last several months. Every time Laura and I get together, there’s much laughter and great conversation. The very first time I met her, she just gushed about Gabe… about what an amazing guy he was, about his passion for Mississippi State football, about his dog, the things they do when they’re together, and on and on. I could tell she was head over heels for him. When I had the chance to meet Gabe, I could tell that this love was not one-sided. He is every bit as much in love with her. Seeing love like that never gets old. That’s why I love my job. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in October and to watch their love grow even deeper over the coming months and years!

Here are just a few of my favorites from their engagement session!

2010 Brides’ Choice Award!!

Posted on January 19, 2010

When I sat down to check my e-mail this afternoon, the last thing I expected was to find that I had received an award. Of any kind. In fact, when I saw the header “You’ve Been Selected…” I almost deleted it. Thankfully, I didn’t, and I found out that I’ve received the 2010 Brides’ Choice Award from WeddingWire.com! I can’t say thank you enough to both my totally amazing brides and to WeddingWire for such an honor! Read more about it here!

Amanda [San Antonio Bridal Portraits]

Posted on January 14, 2010

From the moment I met Amanda, I knew I liked her. She’s very laid back and unassuming, and she has the most beautiful smile. As we sat and talked over coffee one day, I was in awe of just how sweet she was. Can this be real? I wondered. A few months later as we walked around the quiet grounds of the McNay together shooting her bridal portraits, I could tell… this was no act. She really is that sweet. And she looked positively radiant in her silver Alfred Angelo gown. Loved it!

Amanda and Rick’s wedding was this past weekend, so be looking for pictures from the big day soon!

Being Inspired

Posted on December 16, 2009

PHS-1506It’s a cold and cloudy day, and I absolutely love it. Days like this were made for Christmas shopping, reading, snuggling, and watching movies. This morning I was out and about running errands and whatnot, when the bookstore just drew me in. Now, there are two things in a bookstore that I find almost completely irresistible — magazines and journals. Not sure what it is about periodicals that has a hold on me but I just LOVE magazines. Fashion, cooking, home decor, wedding, photography, outdoors… it matters little what the subject matter is, I could read them all day. Journals have always been a weakness of mine. There’s something about the blank canvas, a clean slate… the possibilities. It gets me excited.

Needless to say, I left with a pile of magazines and a new journal. I’m feeling inspired.

What inspires you?

Also, I should’ve posted this ages ago, but congratulations to Natalie, who won a Starbucks gift card in the Thankfulness Challenge a couple weeks ago. She is constantly inspiring me. Thanks, Natalie!

Erica + Brady [Wedding]

Posted on December 8, 2009

I shot Erica and Brady’s small, intimate wedding at The Inn at Craig Place last Monday. I had been talking to Erica over the phone for the past several weeks and I just knew that I liked her. She is enthusiastic and creative and has a laugh that comes easily. I loved talking to her, and I especially loved hearing her talk about Brady. The night before the wedding she told me, “He is my best best friend and I am just SO excited to be marrying him.” She also told me that he never ever smiles… well, Erica… it’s just not true, and now there’s proof. :) Thanks for making me part of your special day!

Jason + Candace [Wedding]

Posted on November 11, 2009

I got to be a part of the coolest wedding this past weekend.

I met Jason and Candace a number of months ago when they started coming to our life group at church. Some people you just know you like from the moment you meet. Candace was super sweet, smart, and had that cool, fashionable feel about her and Jason was funny and thoughtful. They were just a cool couple who seemed to really love eachother. And they have a cool story. Jason and Candace had actually alredy been married, but then divorced. And then God did the miraculous and brought them back together, stronger than ever, so they decided to get married… again. And it was even more significant than the first time… the vows had even more meaning, and every detail truly fit their personality (…and isn’t her dress fantastic?! That’s my favorite color and my favorite style dress. Candace, can I copy you?!). Just a few family and friends made it a truly intimate, beautiful, meaningful, and totally fun event.

Jason and Candace, you are an inspiration to us all and I thank you for letting me be a part of such an incredible event. I’m so glad to call you friends.

Special Thanks: Landa Park [Ceremony], Gruene River Grill [Dinner], Francesca Watson Designs [Custom Jewelry], Comal Flower Shop [Flowers]

Brian + Octavia [Wedding]

Posted on November 4, 2009

From the first meeting with Brian and Octavia, I knew I wanted to work with them. They were fun, creative, energetic, laid back, interesting people who were crazy in love with each other…. and they had super cool accents! It amazes me to hear how two people who grew up on opposite sides of the planet ultimately find eachother — he was from Ireland, and she from Australia. They met and fell in love in Australia and recently relocated here to Texas. Their wedding was made all the more special by the fact that both of their families and a few friends flew in for the week to be a part of this intimate event. I really love small weddings and getting to feel like a part of the family. Thanks Brian and Octavia for an absolutely amazing day and for trusting me to capture your story! I feel truly honored!

Special thanks goes to the wonderful locations and vendors who made all this possible:
- Mission Espada [Ceremony]
- Crystal Glass [Hair & Makeup]
- Francesca Watson Designs [Handcrafted Jewelry + Accessories]
- The Lodge [A.MAZ.ING Dinner]

On a little sidenote, Brian and Octavia really wanted some cool/artsy portraits of the two of them. I absolutely LOVE taking photos like this and think it’s something that you’ll really be glad you had down the road. Unfortunately, a lot of couples skip this because they’re in a rush to get to the reception, and they only take the time to get a couple photos at the church before running off. (I speak from experience because I have NO pictures of JUST Aaron and I at our wedding.) If this is something that is important to you I highly suggest doing what these two did and set aside a couple hours on your wedding day to go and enjoy some [semi-] alone time and get some great photos of the two of you! It worked out at Brian and Octavia’s wedding where they were able to do it between the ceremony and dinner, but other couples may opt to see each other before the wedding (gasp!). I know it’s not the traditional way, but it’s really worth it if you’re able too. And, if you just can’t, you can always do a Day After session. All I’m saying is don’t skip out on the opportunity to create some awesome images of the two of you on the most special day of your life. Now without further ado… here’s a sneak peek!

Mike + Ashley [Destination Wedding]

Posted on October 16, 2009

From the very first time I met Mike and Ashley earlier this year, I have been struck by their laid back personalities, their kindness, the easy laughter of people who are truly happy. It’s been cool to sit back and watch them together, whether they’re just hanging out or watching sports, or playing on their Macs sitting next to each other (remind me to post some of their engagement portraits!). They have a deep affection for each other that has grown over time and distance, and each one of them has the confidence that comes from knowing he/she is truly loved, and that is cool to see.

Laid back people who are crazy in love are my kind of people. So you can imagine that it didn’t take me long to answer when they invited me to come be a part of their wedding in Cabo San Lucas! We had a great time there soaking up the sun and the sand and all the love! Thank you so much to Mike and Ashley for trusting us that much and for letting us document a love as special as yours. And thanks to the staff and wedding coordinator at the Riu Santa Fe for making the wedding and the whole experience amazing!

Matt + Cassie [Wedding - Part II]

Posted on September 18, 2009

Matt & Cassie’s wedding reception was held at the beautiful, rustic Grande Hall at the Hoffman Ranch. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite venues. The facility is exceptionally beautiful, spacious, and unique and the staff, I am learning, is top notch. The evening was lots of fun, and, believe it or not, the rain made everything even better. It’s been so long since we’d had any rain at all that everyone was just giddy with excitement! It was awesome!

Matt + Cassie [Wedding - Part I]

Posted on September 18, 2009

As I drove out to Castroville, I watched the dark rain clouds rolling in. I was excited and nervous all at the same time — I wanted the rain, but I wanted it to hold off until after the wedding was over. Matt and Cassie got married on September 5th, and even though it did, in fact, rain most of the evening, that didn’t keep anyone from celebrating the love of these two high school sweethearts. Everything was fun and beautiful, from the beautiful details to the rich and comfortable love between two people who really know and enjoy each other. Thanks Matt and Cassie for making me a part of your amazing day!
