2011 Holiday Portrait Sessions

Well, I’m a little late in getting this going, but it is FINALLY time to announce this year’s holiday portrait specials! This year, we are not only offering our ever-popular Mini-Sessions, but I’ve got another great deal for you as well for those of you who may be wanting something more than a Mini-Session.

First, our Mini-Sessions will be taking place on Saturday, November 19th in Helotes. $75 gets you a 15-20 minute session (please be on time!) as well as one of our adorable brag books with all of your images in it. In the event of rain or extreme cold (the likelihood of either of those seem highly unlikely given the weather this year), I will contact you and the sessions will be rescheduled for December 3rd.

We are also offering the option for a 30-45 minute full session for $75 (down from $150)! This allows you to choose a location that best suits you and gives us a little more time to create amazing and creative images for you and your family. These sessions are available Tuesday-Friday from now until December 9th mornings only, any time between 8:00 and 11:00 (when there’s great light).

Wedding Books

One thing I love about the wedding books that we offer is that, not only do they include all of the photos from your wedding day, but they can be customized pretty easily. Katy came over one day to view her wedding images, and while she was here, we were able to look through swatches and plan her wedding book. I just got it in and I love the way it came out! She opted for a 9.5×9.5 square book with a pearlescent natural white cover. Don’t you love it?

I just found out the other day that Powerhouse Studios is a 2011 The Knot Best of Weddings Winner. My jaw almost hit the floor when I found out. Seriously. I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all of my fabulous, amazing, oh-so-very-wonderful brides who made this possible! Honestly, I feel so humbled. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your creativity, beauty, laid back and up-for-anything approach inspires me, and your support and encouragement mean the world to me. Truly.

2011 Photography Basics Workshop

I’m happy to announce that after a couple years of being asked, I have finally put together a photography workshop for those who want to learn how to use their DSLR. This workshop is perfect for the mom who wants to get better photos of her kids or the hobbyist who’s never really learned the basics of photography. The workshop is going to be really fun and laid back, and I’ll do my best to teach you things like ISO, apetures, and f/stops, composition, and lighting. There will be discussion time, as well as time for shooting and one on one questions. There will be a meal and drinks included.

My New Office Companion

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce you to my new office companion, Bella. She’ll be helping out around here. Today’s her first day and things seem to be going well. We were unlikely companions, but I think we may have a good thing going. Isn’t she cute? Who can resist those puppy eyes and floppy ears?

My Happy [Work] Place

There’s not a day that goes by that I am not keenly aware of how lucky I am. I have the privilege of doing a job that I adore. To top it all off, I get to do a large part of my it from the comfort of my own home, and that’s just so cool on so many levels. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t struggle with it from time to time. It’s really hard to balance work, time, home, and family a lot of times. Having said that though, I absolutely cannot imagine it any other way.

I love days when I just feel “in the groove”, and I’ve been trying to take note of all the things that contribute to that feeling. What are the usual common denominators?

Starting the day off right. I have the tendency to run to my computer first thing in the morning. Yes, I am addicted. I find that if I, instead, start my day off with a cup of coffee and 30 minutes of peace and quiet out on the deck, I’m much better at managing the rest of my day.
Iced Tea. There must be iced tea. Again, yes, I am addicted.
Music. Great music in the background gets me going. Lately it’s my custom Norah Jones, John Mayer, Madeline Peyroux station on Pandora that I just can’t get enough of.
Family. While there’s sometimes a lot of noise around here, I love knowing that my family is close. This is my last year with my “baby” at home, and I know when he starts Kindergarten next year, my workdays will begin to look drastically different. I’m learning to appreciate those moments where he (or my daughter or husband) just comes in and sits on the couch in my office while I work.

I’m not sure that I’ll ever attain balance or the “perfect” schedule, but I love times spent in this “happy place”.

Hello, everyone! Wow, life has been positively insane around here the past few months. In addition to having lots of portraits and wedding season starting up again, we’ve moved to a new house… which has all been so awesome and fun! And exhausting. I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you who have been so kind and patient with me when things have taken a little longer than usual to get together. I’m finally catching up on everything and I’m so glad to be getting “back to normal” (whatever that is)! Please let me know if you need anything. I’m looking forward to a great summer! (Can May really be coming to an end already?!)

Had a great session last week with some fabulous clients that I did portraits for last year, and thought I’d put up a little sneak peak of their McNay family portrait session. Bear is a very special member of the family who got to come along for pictures. (I love when kids bring things that are such a huge part of who they are. It adds such a personal touch to the portraits.) Had a lot of fun with this family! I was getting ready to photograph a big group shot when I looked over and saw that dad had set this up, and I just had to get it. This picture makes me laugh. I’ll have more (real) previews up soon!
