Laura + Gabe [Engagement Portraits]

Posted on March 17, 2010

I have loved getting to know Laura and Gabe over the last several months. Every time Laura and I get together, there’s much laughter and great conversation. The very first time I met her, she just gushed about Gabe… about what an amazing guy he was, about his passion for Mississippi State football, about his dog, the things they do when they’re together, and on and on. I could tell she was head over heels for him. When I had the chance to meet Gabe, I could tell that this love was not one-sided. He is every bit as much in love with her. Seeing love like that never gets old. That’s why I love my job. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in October and to watch their love grow even deeper over the coming months and years!

Here are just a few of my favorites from their engagement session!

Jason + Natalie [San Antonio Family Portraits]

Posted on January 14, 2010

I was friends with Jason and then with Natalie before I ever knew they’d be my family (I married Jason’s brother)… and before they even knew that someday they would be married. We were part of the College & Careers group at church and we hung out, and they were great friends. Fast forward eight or nine years, and here we all are. Jason and Natalie are not only friends, but family and I feel SO lucky. Words seem to seem insignificant to describe how much they mean to our family.

I had to laugh because Natalie and I planned the shoot all out. She had the idea to do pics in their pajamas… in bed… outside. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the idea. So Aaron and I loaded up a bed into the back of the truck (I have such an awesome husband! He’s always so willing to help me out with anything!) and went to meet Jason and Natalie. Well, as usual, the boys rode in the truck and the girls rode in the car. As the guys started driving, Jason looks at Aaron and says, “So… why do you have a bed in the back of your truck?” When we stopped for gas, Jason motioned for me to roll down the window. He looked at Natalie and I and, his voice thick with doubt, said… “In bed? We’re taking pictures in bed? Outside?” Ha ha! We laughed and he reluctantly said that he trusted me. Natalie, thanks for the great idea, and Jason… thank you for your trust. Really. It means a lot that you didn’t turn around and go back home. ;)

Amanda [San Antonio Bridal Portraits]

Posted on January 14, 2010

From the moment I met Amanda, I knew I liked her. She’s very laid back and unassuming, and she has the most beautiful smile. As we sat and talked over coffee one day, I was in awe of just how sweet she was. Can this be real? I wondered. A few months later as we walked around the quiet grounds of the McNay together shooting her bridal portraits, I could tell… this was no act. She really is that sweet. And she looked positively radiant in her silver Alfred Angelo gown. Loved it!

Amanda and Rick’s wedding was this past weekend, so be looking for pictures from the big day soon!

The Portzline’s [Family + Senior Portraits]

Posted on January 12, 2010

Aaron and I have known the Portzline’s for a number of years now. You can’t help but smile when you’re around them. They’re fun and sweet and down to earth… and they really enjoy being around each other! This year is Rachel’s senior year in high school and we’ve been planning her portraits for quite some time. When Sherry told me that their last family portrait was years and years ago, I told her to bring the family along and we’d get some family portraits too! We had a really fun morning together. Thank you guys for letting me take your portraits, but also for always being there for our family and for loving on our kids. You guys are awesome!

Brielle [Senior Portraits]

Posted on December 16, 2009

Brielle is a beautiful, confident, and fun-loving girl and we had such a good time shooting her senior portraits. She brought along two of her best friends to make her laugh and to take a few pictures with. Senior year is such an exciting time! Brielle, I had a blast! Thanks so much!

Brian + Octavia [Wedding]

Posted on November 4, 2009

From the first meeting with Brian and Octavia, I knew I wanted to work with them. They were fun, creative, energetic, laid back, interesting people who were crazy in love with each other…. and they had super cool accents! It amazes me to hear how two people who grew up on opposite sides of the planet ultimately find eachother — he was from Ireland, and she from Australia. They met and fell in love in Australia and recently relocated here to Texas. Their wedding was made all the more special by the fact that both of their families and a few friends flew in for the week to be a part of this intimate event. I really love small weddings and getting to feel like a part of the family. Thanks Brian and Octavia for an absolutely amazing day and for trusting me to capture your story! I feel truly honored!

Special thanks goes to the wonderful locations and vendors who made all this possible:
- Mission Espada [Ceremony]
- Crystal Glass [Hair & Makeup]
- Francesca Watson Designs [Handcrafted Jewelry + Accessories]
- The Lodge [A.MAZ.ING Dinner]

On a little sidenote, Brian and Octavia really wanted some cool/artsy portraits of the two of them. I absolutely LOVE taking photos like this and think it’s something that you’ll really be glad you had down the road. Unfortunately, a lot of couples skip this because they’re in a rush to get to the reception, and they only take the time to get a couple photos at the church before running off. (I speak from experience because I have NO pictures of JUST Aaron and I at our wedding.) If this is something that is important to you I highly suggest doing what these two did and set aside a couple hours on your wedding day to go and enjoy some [semi-] alone time and get some great photos of the two of you! It worked out at Brian and Octavia’s wedding where they were able to do it between the ceremony and dinner, but other couples may opt to see each other before the wedding (gasp!). I know it’s not the traditional way, but it’s really worth it if you’re able too. And, if you just can’t, you can always do a Day After session. All I’m saying is don’t skip out on the opportunity to create some awesome images of the two of you on the most special day of your life. Now without further ado… here’s a sneak peek!

Lynsey [Senior Portraits]

Posted on November 3, 2009

I met Lynsey last week and we immediately hit it off. She is super sweet and friendly, kind and thoughtful. She told me prior to the session that she LOVES flowers, so I knew the Japanese Tea Gardens would be a fabulous location for her senior portraits. Congratulations, Lynsey, on your senior year and good luck as you head off to ACU next year!

Erica and I met only moments before her portrait session began, but you never would have known it. It was so comfortable hanging out with her. She’s so fun and outgoing and sweet, and we had such a great time while we were taking pictures! Thanks, Erica, for being totally awesome and good luck with the rest of Senior Year! I’m so excited for you!

Mike + Ashley [Destination Wedding]

Posted on October 16, 2009

From the very first time I met Mike and Ashley earlier this year, I have been struck by their laid back personalities, their kindness, the easy laughter of people who are truly happy. It’s been cool to sit back and watch them together, whether they’re just hanging out or watching sports, or playing on their Macs sitting next to each other (remind me to post some of their engagement portraits!). They have a deep affection for each other that has grown over time and distance, and each one of them has the confidence that comes from knowing he/she is truly loved, and that is cool to see.

Laid back people who are crazy in love are my kind of people. So you can imagine that it didn’t take me long to answer when they invited me to come be a part of their wedding in Cabo San Lucas! We had a great time there soaking up the sun and the sand and all the love! Thank you so much to Mike and Ashley for trusting us that much and for letting us document a love as special as yours. And thanks to the staff and wedding coordinator at the Riu Santa Fe for making the wedding and the whole experience amazing!
