Vacation

Posted on August 3, 2010

Walk in the WoodsWell, I’m finally back from vacation. It was wonderful! I had the wonderful opportunity to see some amazing places, spend time with family, relax and more, and I feel so lucky to have had that chance.

The first week away, my mom and I (with the kids in tow) took a road trip up to the Memphis area for a family reunion. My great grandmother grew up in Mississippi and is one of 12. It was fun listening to her and her sister tell stories of when they were younger, and I think it’s so cool that my kids have the chance to hang out with their great-great grandmother. After the reunion, I spent a few days with my mom and dad. It was really nice being “back home” for a while. Next was Jacob and Jill’s wedding (pictures to come soon), and then Aaron, the kids, and I left for our family vacation. We spent a week on the road and had SO MUCH FUN! We canoed on Caddo Lake, built sandcastles on the beach in Galveston, saw dolphins in the harbor, and so much more.

And now we’re back, and I’m excited to be jumping into everything again! I’ll have some weddings and portraits to post for you soon.

Have a great week!

Baby Andre

Posted on March 31, 2010

I don’t put personal stuff on here much, but I wanted to share the newest member of our family. This is my adorable new nephew, Andre. Isn’t he precious?! I was so thrilled when my sister called me last week to tell me that she was headed to the hospital. The kids and I packed up and went to meet him. Even though I’m not that far removed from having babies of my own, I was just amazed at how tiny and sweet and precious newborns are. Love it! Here are a few images. I’m hoping to go back and get some newborn portraits of him.

Being Inspired

Posted on December 16, 2009

PHS-1506It’s a cold and cloudy day, and I absolutely love it. Days like this were made for Christmas shopping, reading, snuggling, and watching movies. This morning I was out and about running errands and whatnot, when the bookstore just drew me in. Now, there are two things in a bookstore that I find almost completely irresistible — magazines and journals. Not sure what it is about periodicals that has a hold on me but I just LOVE magazines. Fashion, cooking, home decor, wedding, photography, outdoors… it matters little what the subject matter is, I could read them all day. Journals have always been a weakness of mine. There’s something about the blank canvas, a clean slate… the possibilities. It gets me excited.

Needless to say, I left with a pile of magazines and a new journal. I’m feeling inspired.

What inspires you?

Also, I should’ve posted this ages ago, but congratulations to Natalie, who won a Starbucks gift card in the Thankfulness Challenge a couple weeks ago. She is constantly inspiring me. Thanks, Natalie!

Being Thankful (and a CHALLENGE!)

Posted on November 18, 2009

Of all the “attitudes” we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing.
–Zig Ziglar (Zig Ziglar’s Little Book of Big Quotes)

In honor of the wonderful Thanksgiving holiday that is before us, and in an effort to become more thankful myself, I have issued myself a challenge. I will spend the next 7 days being very deliberately grateful. I am so blessed, but I don’t always take the time to realize it and to really soak it in. So for the next week, I will be keeping a camera handy (even if it’s only the camera on my phone) and documenting all things that I am thankful for — big and small.

I thought it’d be fun if we did this one together, so I issue the same challenge to you. Between now and Thanksgiving, live gratefully and make a visual journal of all the great things in your life. Have fun, be creative, but most of all take the time to breathe it all in. On Thanksgiving day, post your images (on your blog, collage, a slideshow, in a Photobucket album… wherever) and share the link with us so we can all see them (I’ll do the same). Then, on Saturday, one lucky winner will be chosen and will win a $10 Starbucks card! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

And, because every post is better with a picture, here is a pic of my kiddos making pomanders on our recent trip to Love Creek Orchards.

A Day of Celebration

Posted on June 21, 2009

Today is a big day. I want to say thank you to all you fathers out there, and more specifically to my own amazing dad. You have influenced me more than you know, and in so many ways that I am only now beginning to understand. Thank you for making me feel beautiful and smart and that I could do anything. Words couldn’t say it all. I also would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge my wonderful father-in-law who has welcomed me into his family with open arms and made me feel like his own. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by great dads.

Which brings me to my dear husband, whom I am celebrating today not only because he is a great father, but because six years ago today at this very moment, he was standing with me at the front of a church, promising to love me for the rest of my life. I thought that day was the best day of my life, and yet they keep getting better. Words fall extremely short. You make my life better and I love you.

And because every post is better with pictures, here are a few from our own wedding. :) Enjoy!

Everyone talks about the look on the groom’s face as the bride walks down the aisle, and Aaron did not disappoint. I don’t think I saw anything else when I was walking down the aisle.

My husband, Aaron, is a man who I completely adore.
- I love that you love God more than anything else.
- I love that you are always making me laugh… a lot.
- I love that you tell me I am beautiful even when I’m not feeling it.
- I love when you get the scruffy beard look. You’re so ruggedly handsome!
- I love that you drive an ‘02 Ford Escort even though you desperately want a truck.
- I love that you like to cook for me.
- I love that you don’t expect me to keep the house perfectly clean.
- I love how excited you get when I watch baseball with you and how you answer all of my stupid baseball questions.
- I love that you bought my engagement ring after dating only a few months (but waited months before you proposed to me).
- I love that you stuck around after I said, “No way!” to your proposal :) ha ha!
- I love that on personality tests, we are almost COMPLETE opposites (INFP vs. ENTJ).
- I love watching you play with our kids.
- I love that you can fix cars.
- I love your enthusiasm. Whether it be baseball, music, a new gadget or idea… I love how excited you get.
- I love how much you love your family… and mine.
- I love that you make friends everywhere you go.
- I love listening to Pat Green with you.
- I love that you enjoyed Gilmore Girls just as much as I did (wait, is it okay that I just published that on the internet?!)
- I love that you’re willing to turn off the TV to hang out with me.
- I love the way your arms feel around me.
- I love that you bring so much to the table that I could never bring.
- I love that you work hard and are amazing at your job.
- I love talking to you.
- I love being quiet with you.
- I love that we get excited about the same things (Top Chef, BBQ, driving around aimlessly)
- I love YOU and everything that you are and the million ways you love me. THANK YOU.

Yours,
Bre

80's Photo Shoot

Posted on February 4, 2009

I have the privilege of leading a small group at our church of the most awesome high school girls EVER! I am always challenged and inspired by their faith and the way they live their lives… and they’re fun and beautiful too! We try to get together once a month or so to do something outside of church and hang out and this month, we decided to do an 80’s photo shoot. We had SO MUCH FUN this past Saturday getting all decked out and taking pictures all afternoon! I love HS girls because they are fearless and confident and they are up for anything!

My Husband is Funny

Posted on January 20, 2009

I think my husband is hilarious. He makes me laugh all the time, and this promo video he and Jason made for our church is no exception. I know this is not at all related to photography, but I wanted to share. :) (By the way, my husband is the one in the stripe sweater.)

Things I Love Thursday #3

Posted on January 8, 2009

It’s been a while since I’ve done it, but I like to stop now and again to appreciate the good things in life. Join in if you like!

- Facebook – it’s addicting. I get on just to check one little thing. Oh, it will only take a minute. Two hours later I seem to always find myself still there.

- Friends & Family - I feel very lucky to have family who are my friends, and to have friends who feel like family. I am surrounded by so many totally awesome people, and I feel so blessed.

- Harry Potter – I was skeptical about all the hype, but I saw a couple of the movies, then started reading the books and I LOVE it all! In addition to that, J.K. Rowling is my hero. I don’t know how anyone could ever dream up a story like that and turn it into seven interesting, intelligent, compelling, addicting, enormous books.

- Dresses – I actually hardly ever wear dresses any more, but I love wearing them, whether it be a sun dress or a fun dress for a night out.

- Eating Out – We didn’t eat out much when I was a kid, so I still feel like it’s such a treat to go out to dinner. We’ve actually eaten out quite a bit over the past few weeks with the holidays, etc. My two favorites that we’ve recently been to are Maggiano’s (Braised Beef Canneloni – YUMMY) and La Madeline (can we say Tomato Basil Soup?! Mmmm…). Both amazingly delicious!
