Being Thankful (and a CHALLENGE!)

Posted on November 18, 2009

Of all the “attitudes” we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing.
–Zig Ziglar (Zig Ziglar’s Little Book of Big Quotes)

In honor of the wonderful Thanksgiving holiday that is before us, and in an effort to become more thankful myself, I have issued myself a challenge. I will spend the next 7 days being very deliberately grateful. I am so blessed, but I don’t always take the time to realize it and to really soak it in. So for the next week, I will be keeping a camera handy (even if it’s only the camera on my phone) and documenting all things that I am thankful for — big and small.

I thought it’d be fun if we did this one together, so I issue the same challenge to you. Between now and Thanksgiving, live gratefully and make a visual journal of all the great things in your life. Have fun, be creative, but most of all take the time to breathe it all in. On Thanksgiving day, post your images (on your blog, collage, a slideshow, in a Photobucket album… wherever) and share the link with us so we can all see them (I’ll do the same). Then, on Saturday, one lucky winner will be chosen and will win a $10 Starbucks card! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

And, because every post is better with a picture, here is a pic of my kiddos making pomanders on our recent trip to Love Creek Orchards.

My Husband is Funny

Posted on January 20, 2009

I think my husband is hilarious. He makes me laugh all the time, and this promo video he and Jason made for our church is no exception. I know this is not at all related to photography, but I wanted to share. :) (By the way, my husband is the one in the stripe sweater.)

Being Two…

Posted on September 12, 2008

has got to be wonderful! You can walk around without pants, wear your shoes on the wrong feet, put on crazy hats, and be totally carefree. Life is good when you are two.

When I saw my son and nephew playing in the back yard a little while ago, I just had to grab the point and shoot to capture this moment!

Vacation

Posted on August 21, 2008

We’re on our annual summer trip to Iowa to visit family. We went a different route this time to mix things up a little bit and see some different sights along the way. To kick things off we spent the weekend in Houston. Highlights were dinner at Maggiano’s, an Astros game and Craig Biggio’s retirement ceremony. After Houston, we took a couple days and drove through Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Missouri before finally arriving in Iowa. One of our big highlights was stopping at the BBQ Shop in Memphis to eat some amazing BBQ. :) We’re having a great time with our family here in Iowa. There’s been golf, shopping, lots of fun and laughter, and the most beautiful, relaxing canoe trip yesterday. Here are pics of some of the highlights so far. (These were taken with my little point and shoot. I didn’t bring the “big” camera along this time.)

Thanks to all of my clients for your patience while we’re getting some much needed R&R. I’ll be getting back to you next Monday and Tuesday!

My 4 year old took this picture! Maybe she’ll be a third generation photographer…

I love southern Louisiana. It’s so beautiful! Unfortunately, you can’t stop to take pictures on the bridge, so I had to take pictures from the car at 70 mph.

This photo was taken by my dad…

This is the way to go! :)

Happy Birthday, Abby!

Posted on May 28, 2008

Today is the day that I (hopefully) get all caught up on my blogging :) Last weekend we celebrated Abby’s 4th birthday with bubbles, a “jumpy castle”, a doughnut hole “cake” (along with a lot of other round foods), a little bit of Mario Kart on the Wii, and of course, a lot of great friends and family! Happy Birthday, Abby!

What 3 Skills Would You Learn?

Posted on April 10, 2008

I have been “tagged” by my sister-in-law, Natalie, and also was prompted to give this question some thought from a post on the Espinoza’s blog.

The question is:
What three skills or hobbies would you learn if you had all the time, tools, and money you needed?

My top three?

1. I would LOVE to learn how to cut hair. I don’t know why, but I think it would be amazingly fun and it would be an interesting creative outlet… if anyone would be willing to let me get “creative” with their hair. Yikes. That actually sounds scary when I put it that way.

2. Someday I would like to learn to dance. We didn’t really do any dancing growing up, so I’ve always been a bit timid. But it looks like so much fun. One of these days I’ll just cut loose! :)

3. Fashion Design – How cool would it be to be able to design and sew my own clothes?! Wow!

Not far behind are skills such as cooking, scrapbooking, and… marketing. I’m weird.

What about you?

Opening Day

Posted on April 1, 2008

Baseball’s Opening Day is a big deal in our family. Particularly Opening Day for the Astros. So tonight we decided to start a new tradition and have a whole evening dedicated to all things baseball – peanuts and cracker jacks and all the rest. We had (and are still having, as the Astros game is just about to finally start) so much fun with it all.

(We also took some time to do some self-portraits since we don’t have any pictures of our family together at all!)

Spring is Here!

Posted on March 27, 2008

I was driving down the highway today and saw the first patch of bluebonnets. There were only about 10 of them in a tiny little patch, but they were there! It inspired me to take a long drive and kinda get away from things, if only for an hour or so. I love this time of year and all that it brings. Cool weather, grilling in the back yard, brightly colored dishes and patio furniture… :) I feel very blessed.

I always get quite a few requests for “bluebonnet portraits” this time of year, and I’ve always found them a little bit — tired, I guess. EVERYONE has pictures of their kids sitting in the middle of the bluebonnets, you know? It’s all the same. However, I think I’ve got some really cool bluebonnet pictures coming up. Here are a couple from last year.
