Back to Work!

Posted on September 2, 2008

Okay, so it’s not like I’ve been really gone from work, but the kids just started MDO today and so I now have TWO DAYS a week that are mine. I will have all sorts of uninterrupted time for picture-taking, learning, editing, brainstorming, creating, having a blast doing my job! I’m very excited, not just for me, but for my kids too. I feel called and very blessed to be able to work from home so that I can be there for my kids while they’re young, but it gets very difficult to balance things at times. Sometimes my family has to peel me away from the computer, and I don’t like that. Hopefully having these days to dedicate completely to my work (along with the other few hours I set aside), I will be better about dedicating myself completely to my family the rest of the time.

To kick it all off, I decided to spend the morning working in a quiet bookstore with a delicious (and much needed) iced chai. Ahhh…

What I Do…

“Work is the creation of value in God’s world.” (Nancy Ortberg)

I was listening to the radio the other day when I heard this quote and it really struck me. So many people struggle with work – with whether they are working at the right thing or for the right reasons or feeling bored with it. Upon hearing this definition of work, it cleared so much up for me and it forced me to ask myself, does my work create value in God’s world?

I feel so fortunate to have a job that I absolutely love and that doesn’t feel like work at all. Beyond that, I am so lucky to have a job that I believe really does matter. I get to capture once in a lifetime moments and memories, so that people can re-live precious memories and pass those memories and stories on to generations to come!

I just want to say thank you to all of you who have trusted me with your stories, and who have let me be there for those special moments. I love that my work is not really work at all, and it’s all because of you!

God bless,
Breanna

Spring is Here!

I was driving down the highway today and saw the first patch of bluebonnets. There were only about 10 of them in a tiny little patch, but they were there! It inspired me to take a long drive and kinda get away from things, if only for an hour or so. I love this time of year and all that it brings. Cool weather, grilling in the back yard, brightly colored dishes and patio furniture… :) I feel very blessed.

I always get quite a few requests for “bluebonnet portraits” this time of year, and I’ve always found them a little bit — tired, I guess. EVERYONE has pictures of their kids sitting in the middle of the bluebonnets, you know? It’s all the same. However, I think I’ve got some really cool bluebonnet pictures coming up. Here are a couple from last year.

Laughter & Tears

Posted on December 7, 2007

I have never laughed or cried so much at a photo shoot before. The Carrolls decided that this year they wanted to get pictures with all of the grandparents, so we all went out to Landa Park one afternoon to make it happen. The Carroll family just cracks me up every time I’m around them. There was much laughter and silliness and we had a great time. I’m still not sure if there are any where the kids aren’t making faces, but that’s the real them! :) Towards the end, Zeynep asked if she could take a picture with her mom, who only a couple months before had discovered she had a brain tumor and had been going through intense treatments. Then came the waterworks. It was such an emotional evening, and I hope these photos capture the amazing love that this family shares.

Perspective

Posted on November 8, 2007

I know, I haven’t blogged in a while. Things have been crazy around here, business and otherwise. I think we all feel a little overwhelmed by it all sometimes. I’ve heard this song a hundred times, but only really heard the words today. (LOVE Caedmon’s Call!)

Sacred

this house is a good mess
it’s the proof of life
no way would I trade jobs
but it don’t pay overtime

I’ll get to the laundry
I don’t know when
I’m saying a prayer tonight
cause tomorrow it starts again

could it be that everything is sacred?
and all this time
everything I’ve dreamed of
has been right before my eyes

the children are sleeping
but they’re running through my mind
the sun makes them happy
and the music makes them unwind

***my cup runneth over
and I worry about the stain
teach me to run to You
like they run to me for every little thing

everything is sacred
and all this time
everything I’ve dreamed of
has been right before my eyes
