Featured in San Antonio Weddings Magazine!

Last week I walked out to my mailbox to find the newest edition of San Antonio Weddings Magazine. I was giddy with excitement (because there are truly few things in the world I enjoy more than sitting down with a good magazine). I ran inside and plopped myself down on the couch and began flipping through it, reading articles here and there, when all of the sudden — I saw my name!!! Whaaaat?!

Thank you so much to the awesome folks at San Antonio Weddings for including me in such an amazing publication! I’m honored!

Katherine + Tom – Engagement Session

Posted on May 5, 2009

I love engagement sessions. It’s such a great time to get to know the bride AND the groom, without all the chaos of the wedding day. I had an especially fun time this past Saturday with Katherine and Tom, who are two of the coolest, most laid back people ever. Oh, and did I mention how much they LOVE each other?! Wow! Needless to say all that laughter and the love made for a great shoot! I’m super excited for the wedding! Now on with the pictures… :)

Adam + Joanna – Engagement Portraits

Posted on March 6, 2009

I grew up in a town of 2,500 people. My class was the largest class that had ever gone through our school with 89 students. As a teenager, I dreamed of escaping the small town where I grew up and moving to the big city. In a small town everybody knows everybody and everybody’s business, and if my friends and I wanted to go do anything, we had to drive the hour to Dallas. We had a good time, no doubt, but I wanted something different. Finally, when I was 19, I left and I moved here to San Antonio. The city fascinated me. It took me months, maybe even years to stop saying, “I’m just gonna run into town for a few things.” (”You are in town“, my friends would always say.) But it didn’t take long for me to miss my hometown. I found a new appreciation for the fact that everybody knows everybody, and I missed that. Things were different in the city. The pace was different, high school sports were different, and the people. And now, when I do make it back home, it makes me sad to see all the restaurants and strip centers popping up everywhere. I would’ve killed to have a Sonic and a Target and a Starbucks within 10 minutes of home back then, but now…

I met Joanna last summer when we met to talk about her wedding, and I knew I wanted to be a part of telling their story because I felt connected to it in some way. Adam and Joanna grew up in a small town, and in high school Joanna fell for him, a baseball (and basketball) star, and they fell in love. They have since moved away, built their lives and careers, but they still have their small town roots. They plan to get married “back home” in the small town where they fell in love. Joanna asked me a few weeks ago if it would be weird to do some of their engagement portraits at their high school, I said no way! Iove it! So Saturday, I drove out to meet them and we had such a fun time (despite the gale force winds – only half joking)!

Thanks to Adam and Joanna for trusting me with your memories, and I can’t wait for your bridals and your wedding! It’s been fun getting to know you!

Felicia & Adrian – Engagement

Posted on January 2, 2009

A few weeks ago I headed downtown with Felicia & Adrian to hang out and shoot their engagement portraits. As it happened, we ended up at the exact location where Adrian had asked Felicia to marry him exactly one year ago. It was so sweet watching them together on that bridge, Felicia beaming as Adrian whispered into her ear. These two have something very special, I can tell. Thanks, Felicia & Adrian for spending a fun afternoon with me and I’m so looking forward to your wedding! God bless!

The Holidays!

Posted on November 13, 2008

This is the first year we’ve offered press printed holiday cards and I’m so excited! In the past, photo cards have been printed on photo paper and, more often than not, were kinda cheesy. Now there is an awesome alternative! There are several different sizes and paper types available, ranging from $2-4 each, so order yours soon!

Here are some of the designs that you can choose from, and I’m working on putting together some other simpler, modern designs too! The designs below are for 5×5 or 5×7 flat cards, but they can be modified and we can create an inside design too if you are wanting folded cards. Let me know if you’ve got questions!

Sarah & Justin – Engagement Portraits

Posted on November 4, 2008

I grew up in a small Texas town that no one has ever heard of. When I started school, there was a lot of hype about my class, not only because we were the class of 2000, but because our class was HUGE. Like, 90 kids. :) Most of the kids that I graduated with my senior year, I had known since kindergarten or before, and Sarah was one of those friends. We had our birthday party together in second grade (at the skating rink!), we lived just down the road from eachother, and rode the school bus together all throughout our school years. Graduation came though, and we all went our separate ways. Fast forward to two weeks ago, I was checking my e-mail and I saw an e-mail pop up from Sarah! She is newly engaged and wanted to know if I could take engagement portraits of she and her fiance, Justin. So this weekend, they drove in from Dallas, and we met in Austin for a little reunion and some great pics. It was so much fun getting to see her and catching up with each other, and she and Justin seem so great together! Congrats, you guys! I am so happy for you and I feel honored to have the opportunity to photograph you! :)

NEW! Guest Books

Posted on September 17, 2008

Let’s take a poll… how many of you married folks had a guest book at your wedding? Everyone? Okay, how many of you have actually looked at your guest book since your wedding day? Do you even know where it is?! I know I don’t have a clue where mine is, and you know what… it’s not that important to me, because all I am going to find when I find my guest book is a list of names. Names that matter to me, but its a list, all the same. On white lined paper in a plain white book. Well things are about to change!

We’re helping the Guest Book to become a keepsake that matters. A hard back book customized with pictures from your bridal or engagement session (or we can even scan in pictures from your childhood!) that your guests can write in. There are not lines or strict formats, just pages full of space for your guests to write a meaningful note or a funny memory. This is a priceless keepsake from your wedding that you can look at again and again for years to come.

David & Jackie – Engagement

Posted on August 8, 2008

I had the privilege of actually being there when David proposed to Jackie last summer. He does video (and is amazingly good at it, by the way) and he always comes along to our youth summer camp every year to put together the camp video for us. One morning at camp, we all got together to see the previous days video, it gets to the end and David turns the camera on himself, starts talking about how great Jackie is and then asks her to turn around and face the back of the room where he is on his knee with a ring and asks her to marry him. It was great! David & Jackie dated through high school and are now nearing the end of college, and they’re wonderful.

I am honored to be able to shoot their engagement portraits and, next summer, their wedding. We had a great time Wednesday visiting a couple of their “spots”. One being a duck pond where they like to go sit now and again, and then we visited their alma mater, North East School of the Arts, where they met and fell in love. Congratulations!

WeddingWire.com – A Resource for the Bride & Groom

Posted on June 13, 2008

I have just recently discovered a really cool resource for couples planning their wedding. It’s called WeddingWire, and it offers a ton of cool services and resources including ideas, organization tools, and information and reviews for wedding vendors of all kinds! Every time I browse their site, I discover something new, and it doesn’t seem to be overcrowded with information like a lot of other wedding sites, which I like. Anyway, if you’re getting married, check it out. AND, if you’re already married and you want to help out by reviewing my services as well as your other vendors, WeddingWire is offering a free gift once you’ve reviewed 5 vendors! That’s pretty cool, huh? Thank you so much to all of my brides who have been SO kind to review Powerhouse Studios!
