First Dance

My kids were along for this one since it was a family wedding. Yes, that’s my son in the middle of all the bridesmaids. He was showing of his crazy (and pretty good) dance moves and screaming, “Let’s get this party started!”

The Cottingham Family [San Antonio Portraits]

Posted on July 9, 2010

It’s official. The Cottinghams broke the record for largest family portrait I have ever done. I’ve gotta say though, that they are one of the coolest families ever. Truly. We had a good time out at the Tea Gardens, and it was fun getting a little glimpse of what it’s like to be part of a big family. Not only is their love for each other inspiring, but their love for others in general. I didn’t realize until we got them all together, but I’d crossed paths with several members of their family over the past year or so at my daughter’s school and their kindness always stood out to me. Come to find out, they’re all part of the same awesome family.

To the whole family, thank you for allowing me a glimpse into your family and for trusting me with your family’s portraits! I had fun!

Displaying Family Photos

Posted on July 8, 2010

It’s no secret that I adore magazines. Every time I open one, no matter what the topic, it feels like Christmas. I’m weird, I know.

Imagine my excitement when I got a new magazine in the mail today and opened it up to find this amazing article about displaying family photos in your home! It’s an amazingly helpful article with beautiful photos and ideas. Check out the August issue of Family Circle to see it for yourself.

For more ideas, you can also check out our Inspire Guide! There are 25 different display options with sizes and layouts for all different rooms. Find the Inspire Guide here at http://powerhousestudiosclients.com/RedCart/index.php?gnum=102.

Also, if you (or a friend) have beautifully, artfully, or creatively displayed photos in your home, send me a photo! I’d love to feature it on the blog!

Hope you have a great week!

Timelessness

Posted on July 1, 2010

I love the rain. Yesterday Abby was sitting in my office with me, and even she was quiet as we listened to sound of the raindrops hitting the windows. Such peace. At some point, I turned to say something to her and I saw this. Couldn’t resist grabbing the camera. I love capturing moments like this. It’s just so her. Every time it rains, even if she’s not going outside, she puts on that raincoat. I think it’s cute. I love pictures like this because it’s going to mean something to me, still, in 10, 20, and 50 years.

Rainy Day

I was lucky enough to get another timeless photo earlier this month… this one of my son at a baseball game. It wasn’t planned, and I only had a tiny part in posing him. (Ha ha… I couldn’t help it!) As a mother who knows her son, his smile is so sweet and natural (I can almost hear his little giggle), and the dirty baseball hat about says it all. I know that we’re going to treasure this photo forever.

Baseball Portrait

I say all this, not as a photographer, but as a mother. For me, this is what photography is all about… about capturing the essence and the story of a person or family. It’s not just about having something neat to show friends, but about memories, legacies, and stories.

Forgive me, I am becoming a little mushy and nostalgic. But then I think we all should be now and again.

What would that timeless photo be for you? Who is in it? Where are they? What are they doing?

Jody + Randy [New Braunfels Wedding Photographer]

Randy and Jody are a really awesome couple. In fact, after leaving their portrait session a month or so prior to the wedding, Aaron (my husband) commented to me, “I feel like I could be good friends with them.” I felt the same way, and being at their wedding, I could tell that we weren’t the only ones. Their wedding celebration was packed with close friends and family who I could tell just LOVED them. It was such a wonderful celebration, and I felt honored to be a part of it. Congrats Randy and Jody!

Jessica [Dallas Bridal Portraits]

First off, let me say I’m embarassed at how long its been since my last post. Strangely, the more pictures that I have to post, the less I blog. Somehow that’s just not right. There’s been a lot going on around here this summer! I’m excited to share some weddings and portraits I’ve had recently. It’s been a lot of fun!

Here are a few picks from Jessica’s bridal portrait session at Piazza in the Village in Colleyville, where she and Joey were married last weekend. It’s a gorgeous venue and she is, of course, a gorgeous bride. We had a great time, and I even got to go taste cakes with them afterwards! Jessica, you’re beautiful, and I’ve loved being a part of your wedding!

Beautiful Weekend

Posted on May 22, 2010

We’re only halfway through, but it’s been a great weekend so far. Things have been a little busy/hectic lately, but yesterday I decided to take it easy and relax some. I spent a better part of the day exploring Helotes, where I found a fabulous antique shop, bought some props for newborn portraits, found a delicious burger joint, and even better, got to hang out with my family. Days like yesterday make me feel lucky to be alive. Getting away from everything has a way of bringing new perspective and shifting focus to the things that are really important.

Today I got to be a part of Natalie and Fernando’s wedding, and as they said their vows, as I watched their faces, once again I felt lucky. Lucky to be able to be a part of such a life-changing day. Marriage is such an amazing gift. I am so thankful for my husband and for how much better my life is because he’s a part of it, and I get excited for each couple whose wedding I’m at, that they get to experience the same thing. What a great blessing.

I’m headed out to the reception in a while, but wanted to share a quick pic from earlier (because a post is always better with a picture).

Have a great weekend!

Thank You… and a Pic for Fun

Posted on May 18, 2010

Hello, everyone! Wow, life has been positively insane around here the past few months. In addition to having lots of portraits and wedding season starting up again, we’ve moved to a new house… which has all been so awesome and fun! And exhausting. :) I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you who have been so kind and patient with me when things have taken a little longer than usual to get together. I’m finally catching up on everything and I’m so glad to be getting “back to normal” (whatever that is)! Please let me know if you need anything. I’m looking forward to a great summer! (Can May really be coming to an end already?!)

Had a great session last week with some fabulous clients that I did portraits for last year, and thought I’d put up a little sneak peak of their McNay family portrait session. Bear is a very special member of the family who got to come along for pictures. (I love when kids bring things that are such a huge part of who they are. It adds such a personal touch to the portraits.) Had a lot of fun with this family! I was getting ready to photograph a big group shot when I looked over and saw that dad had set this up, and I just had to get it. This picture makes me laugh. :) I’ll have more (real) previews up soon!

Carrie + Steve [Wedding]

Posted on May 11, 2010

I have to admit being a little nervous prior to Steve and Carrie’s wedding. I’ve been shooting weddings for five years now, and I still get nervous before a wedding. I don’t even know why. Isn’t that weird? I guess it’s that realization of the fact that this is one of the greatest, most amazing days in a couple’s life, and they’ve trusted me to document it. That’s a lot of pressure! In a way I think that’s good though. I never want to get in the “routine” of weddings. I don’t want them to ever lose their specialness. So I guess in a way, I hope I’m always a little nervous. But I digress…

For some reason I was really having trouble shaking the nerves that day. But I’ve gotta tell ya… as soon as I arrived, I felt right at home. Carrie and her family were so laid back, sweet, and gracious, that I was instantly at ease. I love that. I immediately loved Carrie and her beautiful smile and the way that she carried herself. When we arrived at Pearl Stable and I met Steve, I could tell that these two were an amazing couple. They opted to see each other before the ceremony to do a “First Look” session, and it was so sweet. As Steve stood with his back to the door waiting for Carrie to enter, we talked, and I could see in his nervous smile just how much he adored her. Seeing both of their faces when they saw each other for the first time was magical. I loved being a part of their wedding and getting to see a glimpse of the deep love they have for each other. It’s so amazing to be a part of their family’s history and to know that no matter how much they loved each other on that day, as time goes on their love will grow deeper and wider and more all-encompassing than they could ever dream. That’s a great thing to be a part of. I love my job!

Thanks to Carrie and Steve for trusting me to document your wedding day. It was such a priviledge to work with you! Special thanks also to Sue of Wedding Planners, Inc. for making the whole event amazing and to Steve at Pizzini Designs for making the whole event breathtakingly beautiful!

OneWed.com [Wedding Resource]

Posted on May 11, 2010

I always like finding and sharing new resources for brides, and just re-discovered OneWed.com. They just recently re-vamped their whole site and it is now a really helpful resource. My favorite feature is that you can read reviews by other wedding couples. As a consumer I’m a huge fan of sites that have actual customer reviews… just ask my husband. It annoys him greatly. Ha ha! Anyway, if you’re in the midst of planning your wedding, check it out. AND if you’re a former bride, feel free to stop by and leave reviews for your favorite vendors.

Have a great week!
