I’m Taking a Break

To be honest, I’m not sure how to write this post. Many of you are friends and clients who have followed me as I’ve grown Powerhouse Studios over the course of the past 8 years, and some of you may have just started coming around. No matter who you are, I thank you for coming here and for investing in me as I have had the chance to live out a dream of mine! However, over the past number of months, I feel like God has been telling me it’s time to take a break.

So I am.

This seems a little weird to be stepping down at this point, but I feel like it’s the right thing. I’m looking forward to laid-back Saturdays with my family (my youngest just started playing baseball), the opportunity to travel in the fall (an opportunity I’ve never had before at the height of wedding season), and finding time for all the little things I never seem to be able to make space for (that list is long)!

For all my current clients and events that I have booked for the rest of the year, don’t worry! I’ll still be around and you won’t notice a hitch. I’m still working, but I will not be booking any new business for now. And who knows what the future holds? I may be back! In the mean time, you can follow me at www.breannapowers.com (though it’s still a work in progress).

I cannot fully express my extreme gratitude to everyone who has supported me over the last eight years. I have had the opportunity to know and to work with some of the most amazing people, and I am so fortunate to call many of them friends! Please stay in touch.

I’d really been looking forward to Ashley and Chris’s Hotel Valencia Wedding for a long time. From the very first time I met these two, we just connected. They’re such a fun couple with a strong sense of who they are, and they share a deep confidence in the love that they share. Their wedding was a perfect reflection of who they are. As I was going through these photos last night, I found myself just smiling at all of the happy moments that took place on their wedding day. Ashley and Chris, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your very special day!

Natalie + Mike [St. Anthony Hotel | San Antonio Wedding Photographer]

It was a gorgeous day. It had been raining all morning, but just as I got in the car to drive to Mike and Natalie’s wedding, the clouds parted, and it was the perfect day — and I’m not just talking about the weather. Every detail of the wedding from ceremony to reception was so beautiful and elegant, and what’s more is that Mike and Natalie are just perfect for each other. I was so honored to be with them for the day and to capture all of the amazing details and the sweet, fun, and hilarious moments.

Stevie + Jason [Hondo Ranch Wedding | San Antonio Wedding Photographer]

Stevie and Jason are a super fun, laid-back couple, who are absolutely crazy for each other. Her parent’s ranch was the perfect backdrop for this intimate and relaxed wedding. There wasn’t a lot of fanfare, but the excitement and the love in the air was palpable, and the look on Jason’s face when he saw Stevie for the first time (and every time after that) was priceless. I loved being a part of such an intimate wedding — getting to know their families, hearing their stories, capturing their laughter and their tears. It was such a memorable day.

Jessica + Isaac [San Antonio Wedding | Pearl Stable]

Jessica and Isaac met for the first time at a friends party. For some couples, it’s love at first sight. As for these two, well… they didn’t like each other. When you meet them, you’ll see that they’re total opposites. She’s bubbly and outgoing, and he’s the quiet, serious type. But… as we all know, opposites attract, and it wasn’t long before these two fell in love, and they’re the perfect match. Their wedding was a perfect reflection of both of their personalities (with help from Principles in Action), with beautiful details and personal touches!

People are (relatively) good about having family portraits taken every year or two when their kids are little. But as the years roll on and schedules get busier, I find that a lot of families keep putting it off. (I can’t tell you how many people come to me and say, “Oh, I need to schedule that session soon!”… and then never quite get around to it. I’m guilty too.) So I love when moms call me up and say, “Hey, I’ve got everyone in town for three days, and we are going to make this happen!” It can be a hassle (no one wants to be awake before 11 am!), but it’s SOOO worth it! When Lisa called me up to tell me that she was finally going to have everyone under the same roof, we made plans. It was early (and already blazing hot), but the Millers totally rocked it out and had fun (seriously, they’re a fun crowd)!

Chris and Katie were high school sweethearts. Their relationship has weathered all that has come their way through the years — college, Chris’s baseball career, and more — and in February they sealed the deal. Chris’s face said it all when he saw her walking down the aisle. He was overwhelmed by her beauty and her sweet smile as she stood before him. It was pure love. Their wedding was beautiful, classy, and they were surrounded by tons of loving family and friends! Everyone had a great time celebrating these two!

Daniel and Amanda were some of my first friends when I moved to San Antonio. They’re probably some of the most interesting people I know, and I could sit and talk with them forever because they just think differently than most people (in a very good way). I always leave inspired and with something to think about. I had a great time hanging out at Blue Star with them and their awesome kids for some updated portraits.

Today I have the privilege of hanging out with two of my nieces and my nephew. The perk of them having grown up in a family of photographers is that they’re always up for a photo shoot. As soon as they got to my house, they had my daughter Abby dressing them up, fixing hair, and all that fun stuff. Finally they ran downstairs to tell me they were ready, and begged me to come upstairs and take pictures of them. They’re like little models! So I thought I’d try something a little different than my usual upstairs in my mini studio, and I like how these simple studio portraits came out!
